James Brown has a very fitting tribute last night at the Grammys. His cape hanged proudly from the microphone at the center of the stage, where he'll always be. On other notes, the version of "It's a man's man's world" by X-tina Aguilera was spectacular!! I thought it was hopeless, but this woman, who has always had the pipes, seems to be developing her sense of taste, and her tribute sounded sincere, powerful and very very good! A pleasant surprise!
Final note: it's nice to see that Ike Turner gets some credit back (Best Blues Album of the year) and that the wonderful Irma Thomas gets the attention she deserves, although their respective Grammy-winning efforts were inferior to their previous releases. Anyway, both well-deserved and most welcome!

Re: James Brown, Christina Aguilera and the Grammys
Mon, February 12, 2007 - 12:03 PMTotally agree with your post Miguel. The hung the cape, waited a few seconds, and went directly to a commercial.
Very impressed with Aguilera. She is no Brttney Spears is she.
I have Turner's Here and Now album from about six years ago. Its fantastic. I have seen him now (3) times....what a talent. -

Re: James Brown, Christina Aguilera and the Grammys
Mon, February 12, 2007 - 12:36 PMHere and now is so much better than the last one. I listened to it in my favourite CD store in town (the blues/jazz guy is a buddy of mine) and passed on it. Ike's guitar is awesome, but his voice... pffff, he tries too hard to sing "old-school", and obviously he doesn't have the pipes!
At this point, it seems Aguilera has salvaged her career somehow (I still don't like her "diva" ticks and vocal adornment), but her taste is improving fast. Hope she's not back to the "Drrrty" era, and keeps digging old school material. Would love to hear a southern soul album with those pipes of hers! -

Mon, February 12, 2007 - 12:45 PMIke Turner story:
I was getting gas in Oceanside about 10 years ago. A "white short limo" like car pulled into the stall next to mine. As I was pumping gas I noticed a couple attractive ladies get out dressed up like "high class entertainment for gentlemen."
Then Ike stepped out. I did not recognize him but smiled. He looked at me...smiled....said wait here a second...went back to the car and came out and handed me a signed promo shot with the girls.
He shook my hand and said "thanks for recognizing me" (LOL).
